Measuring instructions for Redi Shade Original Products
General Guidelines
- Measure each window individually, size variances are common.
- Record width first, then height (also referred to as length) to the nearest 1/8".
- Measure width from left to right, height from top to bottom, using a steel tape measure.
- Do not use a cloth tape.
Step 1: Determine Type of Mount
Inside Mount

Your shades are mounted inside the window casing for a more finished look. This is the recommended mounting option for all Redi Shade products
Outside Mount

Your shades are mounted on the wall or molding outside the window casing and cover an area larger than the window itself. We recommend approximately 1 1/2” of overlap on each side (a total of 3”) to ensure light control and privacy
Step 2: Measuring
Inside Mount
- Measure the exact inside width of the window frame from one inside edge to the other in three different places: top, middle, bottom. Record the narrowest measurement.
- Measure the exact height in three different places from top edge of opening to top of sill: left, center, right. Record the longest measurement.
- Deduct ¼” from your width measurement for proper shade clearance.
Outside Mount
- Measure the exact width to be covered. Be sure the measurement overlaps the window opening by at least 1 ½" on each side (3" total overlap) to ensure light control and privacy.
- Measure exact height to be covered, including desired overlap (typically from top edge of molding to bottom edge, or to top of sill if there is one).
- Requires at least 1” of flat space above the window casing for proper installation
